Martin Cattle
Company, situated in the gentle
rolling hills of north
central Arkansas, is
operated as a family farm with David,
Rita, and their three daughters, Rebecca, Dana and Rasha.
Martin Cattle Company was started in 1991.
Previously David managed a large purebred Santa
Gertrudis ranch. It was during that time that he
began using Gelbvieh bulls on some of the ranch’s
1500 head. David was impressed with the milk,
fertility, and performance of the breed compared to
the other sires in the ranch’s crossbreeding
program. When it was decided to disperse the ranch
in 1990, David bought 12 halfblood females that
would become the foundation for today’s 100 plus
head of Gelbvieh seedstock. Several other females
already in the Martin herd were bred up to high
percentage Gelbvieh over the years.
“I’m proud to say that I have cow families that can
be traced back 60 years on our family farm. My
philosophy has always been to raise cattle that are
functional, efficient and that fit the commercial
industry.”
